The Germ Theory

The Germ Theory was developed by a French chemist named Louis Pasteur in the mid 1800's. He discovered that the microscopic organisms in alcohol are what cause it to ferment and later discovered that they are the cause of disease. Through what Pasteur had found, surgeon Joseph Lister became interested and started to examine surgery units. This led to cleaner environments for surgeries and a greater amount of surgery survivors. With more knowledge about disease coming about, vaccines and prevention of sickness began to come to light. These breakthroughs have helped to improve the health of people all around the world.
