The Suez Canal
The Suez Canal is controlled by the Suez Canal Authority, or SCA, which was established on July 26, 1956. The SCA does basically everything from managing and operating to maitenance. The canal is frequently used by modern ships, as it is the fastest crossing from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean. Nearly 1,485 ships travel through it in one month. If it weren't for the canal, the prices of many products, such as oil, would be higher because of the much longer shipping time. The tolls paid by the ships that travel it represent an important source of income for the Egyptian government.
